Foran Derivatives Fundamentals and Options Licensing Seminar

This five-day seminar will appeal to those individuals in the securities industry who are working towards being registered to sell options and/or futures. It combines the Derivatives Fundamentals course with the Options Licensing courses.

Content: The first three days of this five-day seminar will cover an introductry course on derivatives, providing an overview of derivatives, the underlying concepts and their characteristics. This includes derivatives terminology, derivatives strategies and tactics, futures contracts, exchange traded options and swaps; how investment funds and structured products use derivatives; the underlying risks for both the investor and the trading organization; documentation requirements and taxation issues.

The final two days will cover essential options topics including determining client suitability, strategies based on market outlook and risk tolerance level; opening and maintaining retail options accounts, executing orders on exchanges, payment options, exercise assignment or option expiry; Canadian tax implications of listed options trading; opening and maintaining institutional options accounts; the role of clearing corporations and exchanges in listed options trading; contract adjustments and special considerations and risks of non-equity options.
